The special menorah used for Chanukah is called a Chanukiah. The shamash, or lead candle, sits at the highest point; while the nightly candles can be placed across the center of the plate. This crown like Chanukiah is made on the potter's wheel and then cut to its shape. The Jewish star and the traditional branched menorah are incorporated into the cutout design. Since it is customary to light candles near a window, I created a Chanukiah that would be elegant viewed from either direction.
