The Jewish tradition teaches that when we remember and honor a loved one who has passed away, we help to keep that person alive. This candleholder is made specifically to beautify the tradition of lighting a Yartziet candle. The primary cut out design has two Hebrew letters zayin and lamed written in cursive. These letters are an acronym for "zichrona l'vracha", which means, "May their memory be for a blessing." This acronym is also written z"l in English. The candleholder also has two other cut outs in the shape of a flame, which echo the flame of the lit candle.
